DELPHI DISPLAY SYSTEMS NAMED U.S. EQUIPMENT
SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR FOR TACO BELL BY YUM! BRANDS
A Provider of Outdoor Digital Video Displays for QSR Drive-Thrus,
Delphi Earns Yum! Brands’ Prestigious “STAR” Award as a Best-of-Breed Supplier
COSTA MESA, CA (May 14, 2003) – Delphi Display Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer and designer of outdoor digital video display systems for the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry, has been named the “2002 U.S. Equipment Supplier of the Year” for Taco Bell Corp. (“Taco Bell”) by Yum! Brands, Inc. (“Yum! Brands”). Delphi received the prestigious honor as part of Yum! Brands’ annual black-tie STAR Awards ceremony held recently in Dallas, TX .
Already a “Preferred Supplier” of Order Confirmation Systems (OCS) for Taco Bell, Delphi was selected based on the STAR “Supplier Tracking Assessment and Recognition” audit system, Yum! Brands’ criteria for evaluating its 12,000-plus suppliers to ensure ongoing excellence in food and equipment supply among its vendor community. As part of the program, a select group of premier suppliers are honored among hundreds that undergo a rigorous STAR operations audit.
“To be singled out as a STAR award recipient is a stamp of excellence that validates and further strengthens our credentials as a trusted equipment supplier to Taco Bell as well as other Yum! Brands,” said Ken Neeld, president and CEO of Delphi. “The assessment process is very thorough and we’re proud that our business operations, technology and performance stood up to Yum! Brands’ highest standards of achievement.”
Along with serving as an assessment tool, the STAR system is used to create the best global supply chain processes between Yum! Brands and its suppliers. The program includes a comprehensive process for benchmarking, auditing and analyzing supplier capabilities, services and results. STAR audit participants are reviewed and compared based on a scoring system that measures cost, quality, reliability, technical systems and overall business performance.
“We use STAR measurements as an important tool to aid in the management and maintenance of the quality relationship we enjoy with our global vendor community,” said David Brewer, vice president and chief engineer of Yum! Brands. “STAR awards are presented to the best-of-the-best suppliers, and Delphi is clearly in that category.”
As the “Preferred Supplier” of OCS equipment to Taco Bell since 2001, Delphi has supported all corporate installations. To date, 45 franchisees have selected Delphi as their supplier of choice for OCS technology.
“Taco Bell is committed to working with vendors who will help improve the overall experience and satisfaction of our guests, and Delphi helps us do just that,” said Rick Winfree, senior director of restaurant systems engineering for Taco Bell. “The STAR award is a testament to Delphi’s commitment to operational excellence.”
Located at the order point in the drive-thru lane, Delphi’s OCS delivers state-of-the-art video images displayed on large format full color LCD monitors designed as a self contained, robust and sealed freestanding unit. OCS’s have shown improvement in order accuracy and speed of service by visually confirming a customer’s purchase at the point of sale using high-resolution video, graphics or text that can be viewed in direct sunlight environments.
